Strategy Based Instruction
Writing
How do the minds of writers work?

What cognitive and metacognitive processes do writers engage in as they prewrite,
draft, edit and revise?

How can teachers make these processes easily accessible to students?

Strategy Based Writing (SBW) offers explicit, systematic instruction in the
cognitive process of writing.  Bilingual, regular education and special education
students can see the "secrets of learning" once given SBW.  When shown  how to
use these research-based strategies effectively, students gain the ability to create
memorable writing, complete complex tasks, and perform on state exams.
